makeupalley cafe board

The otherwise excellent makeupalley beauty and wellbeing website's weak spot is the cafe board. There is teenage angst re boys and relationships, looks, unfair parents; derogatory comments about mothers-in-law (watch your back if your son gets an MUA girlfriend); disgust re pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding - oh, and pubic hair; childless posters who apparently have the expertise to comment upon child-rearing practices and the inadequacies of parents; nauseating fawning over pets, yet many US cats are subjected to onychectomy, a practice prohibited or restricted in many countries; bragging posts by the sexually 'daring' who aren't doing anything different, just making more 'look at me' noise about it; bashing of and ignorance about feminism, history, the world; pointless posts about pooping (grow up and let us eat our snacks at the computer in peace); film and book recommendations that are usually lowest common denominator formulaic rubbish. The format of the board is chatroom-like, which is a strength, and sometimes there are posters with whom it's possible to have a respectful exchange of ideas, some truly liberated thinking, and real fun rather than a repetition of the same in-jokes. The board is dominated by Americans so be politically incorrect or try a little subtle humour at your peril. Finally, be prepared for some eye-rollingly ignorant posts when the banned topic of religion rears its head, and remember that correct spelling is beyond a majority of the posters, most of whom don't have the excuse of English being their second language.

Caffe Pergolesi

A hot spot for hipsters. Affectionately called "pergs", "pergos", or "Doctor Millers". Usually inhabited by hippies and trendily dressed kids who ride bikes and are usually seen with a cigarette in hand, along with some form of tea, Italian soda, or coffee. Most of the teen population doesn't go to public school, either is Independent studies, homeschooled, charter school, or just isn't in the system for school. People spend hours sitting in this place feeling cool with their books, laptops, or newspapers, iPods blasting bands like the Blood Brothers, Animal Collective, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sheena, CocoRosie, and Blonde Redhead.
Everyone knows everyone, and everyone else is better than you.

Hey, after the show you want to coffee at Caffe Pergolesi? I hear *insert local band* is playing tonight.

cafeteria

A room or building often located on a school campus which proports to offer comestibles to the masses. However, one most often finds that the fare available in cafeterias does not truly resemble any known food substances. In fact, upon further investigation most knowlegable people flee in horror and disgust from the so-called meals. Others, be they gluttons for punishment (both literal and figurative) or simply starved past the point of reason, choose to ignore the warnings that their senses of sight, smell, touch, and taste are screaming at them, and foolishly proceed to shovel the not-quite deadly toxins into their bodies. For these unlucky individuals a cafeteria can provide them with just enough energy to survive for a few more hours.

I strapped for cash today so I'll have to eat at the cafeteria.

The cafeteria will be serving leftovers today.

Caffiend

Individual, usually male, who will drink coffee, energy drinks, or soda in great excess and/or every chance he or she has. Motivation for such actions could be chemical dependency on caffeine, or the desire to seem "hard-core" by being seen drinking energy drinks.

John: Jeez, my brother drinks like two 12-packs of soda in one sitting.
Jake: What a freaking caffiend.

A Catholic individual, typically poorly catechised, from the Latin Rite or other. Said Catholic will pick and choose what he chooses to believe in in regards to the faith. Typically they will deny or mutilate revealed truths in order to justify their sinful lifestyles.

John is a cafeteria Catholic, he believes in the Magesterium but he thinks women should be allowed to be ordained.
