it is what it is

A quintessentially American East Coast colloquialism that is meant as a sort of passive acceptance of a situation that is not favorable but also cannot be changed (or at least not right away). It can be used in any context, although usually it refers to an illness, injury, stroke of bad luck financially, romantic trouble, etc. It should never be used as a means to an end in an actual intellectual comversation. Also known as: What will be will be. Suck it up. Deal with it.

"Landlord bumped my rent up... oh well, we don't have a lease agreement. Eh, it is what it is."

::after a long perios of obsessively analyzing what went wrong in a toxic relationship; finding oneself depressed and overwhelmed by the details of it all; an acceptance (these are usually prefaced by a weighted sigh):: "It is what it is."

I see how it is

This phrase can be said and used in a lot of situations including when someone is prejudiced, ignorant or racist.

For Example, In your work place when the manager gives your white work colleague a promotion even though it is clear to everyone including the manager and yourself that he is just a lazy worker who gets by using people and doing minimum work whilst you suffering from institutional and corruption worked exceptionally hard etc but got nothing in return so the black worker says "I see how it is!"

african-american slang for "How about that!" or "Man look at that!". Often used to recognize fine pieces of ass, or "booty".

Damn girl, let me see you shake that....Whoop, there it is!

itisness

1. Itisness comes from itis which means being sleepy typically as a result of eating a large fatty meal. Itisness extends this to mean a state of relaxation or idleness.

2. Itisness was read as it-is-ness and so was interpreted as meaning a meditative state of being which is ironically similar to the original meaning. It is also used as a one word explanation for anything.

1. Sundays are my days of itisness, sitting on the couch watching talk shows.

2. I tried to find reasons why, but failed and had to settle for itisness.
