Yuppie

A young Urban Proffessional, commonly thought of as a general menace, due to increasing the property values of the neighorhoods around them, however, they can be artistic, creative indivduals who gained through their own hard work and want to help the world.

In the song' We're All Yuppies Now', I give yuppies a good name.

To understand the word yuppie, I believe a mini-geneaology is helpful. Many yuppies, during the 60s were hippies who opposed the Vietnam War with their slogan of peace and love. At the beginning of the 70s, this movement died and most of the hippies sold out. The energy and momentum they had created, they poured into the capitalist market, and rather than make love they started to make money. That´s why I believe the term yuppie has connotations of inauthenticity because many yuppies once had a higher ideal; they were playing a bigger game and they traded it in for consumerism.

Boulder, Colorado was one of the epicenters of hippiedom back in the 60s and now it is super-yuppie. It's now called "the rich, white utopia".

yuppiteria

A place -- usually a dining establishment of some kind -- where yuppies tend to go to eat/drink/socialize...though others go there as well. Such places tend to have haute cuisine and vary in price from slightly overpriced to outrageously overpriced, but are frequently worth it.

I don't go to the Intermezzo often because it's a crowded, overpriced yuppiteria, where people sit around on the patio talking about yuppie things and showing off how swank they are... but they have nine kinds of Hot Chocolate on their recipe and an entire wall of desserts. Sometimes you just gotta have it!

1) An out dated acronymn used in the 80's and early 90's that meant: Yes Under Peer Pressure I Eat Shit. It indicated that there were brown nosers on the way up the chain of seniority in a corporation career
