alternative

A term used to descibe music that is an alternative from the mainstream music. Although this term is irrelevent now, because what is refered to as alternative is in fact, the mainstream music.

Boy1:what kind of music do you like"
Boy2:alternative.
Boy1:why?
Boy2:because i dont like to listen to the same thing everyone else does.
Boy1:umm alternative is what everyone listens to....

adj. used to describe people or things that are or appear impaired to the point of hilarity, usually mentally. Usage is mostly localised to a small alternative high school in Michigan.

Alternative society movement

A movement where people seek to drop out of regular society and form a society among themselves where there are lots of drugs,sex ect. and they often form communes and/or have regular gatherings with lots of drugs,sex ect. and there is a general hippie counter culture outlook on life. One of the main ideas is that if enough people join it there won't be enough people in regular society and it will colapse and the alternative society will take over.

Alterna-ego

When a corporate executive attends rock concerts they often have to change out of their button down shirts and slacks and dress in skater/punk/alternative apparel. This is known as their "alternative ego". Derived from the phrase "alter-ego". See Alternative Rock.

When Green Day played down by Wall street, I went to the show dressed business casual because I didn't have my Alterna-ego clothes. I lost a couple of buttons in the mosh pit.

Alternateen

Not to be confused with the other (incorrect) definition of alternateen (which actually is an umbrella of Punk, Poserpunk, Emo, Scene, Goth, Hardcore, Grindcore, and Death Metal, all in one tight little generalization), Alternateens are the undereducated Hipsters. They look relatively indie, but stay within earth tones, have close to hippie-esque hair, and tend to say they listen to "Alternative Music" not knowing the specifics of the genre. Alternative encompasses all subgenres of rock (see whats above, give or take some). Alternateens are mostly found in small towns and are teenagers that try too hard with knowing so little about culture.

We were walking down the street in that tiny port town when we passed a teen center surrounded by Alternateens, who gave us the nastiest look.
