Abbreviation for the Arabic general greeting phrase "Selâmün aleyküm (Peace be upon you)" which is typed in latin alphabet. A proper reply should be "ve Aleyküm selâm (And peace be upon you, too.)" but usually people in younger generation don't tend to use "ve (and)" conjunction.
