Yooperland

The U.P. (Upper Peninsula) of Michigan where the people living there are often called Yoopers. Because the U.P. is so different from that of the rest of Michigan it is often thought that the U.P. should break off and form the 51 state, Yooperland. It is an impossible dream however and many Yoopers are content to be an unoffical 51st state (Puerto Rico can also claim this as they are a U.S. commonwealth). If Yooperland were to exist its capital would likely be either Marquette or Escanaba.

Yooper Accent

The dialect of residents of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Known for their use of long vowels and accenting the first syllables. Also the dropping of the words "to" and "the" in correct English sentences.

Yoopers also commonly add the end sound "eh" to sentences to show they are finished speaking.

They also commonly use the phrase "I suppose" to excuse them selves from any situation.

Yooper Accent = Yoou-Per aK-sent

"Say ya to da U.P. Eh!"

Sauna = Sow-naw

"I'ma go take a sauna eh."

Impala (like the car) = Im-pah-lah

"I just got me a new impahla"

They = Dey or Deh depending on the speed at which the yooper in question is speaking

"Deh are so nutso eh?"

There = Dare

"Dare dey go!"

I suppose = Aye Sop-pose

"I suppose I should get"

"I am going to the store" = "I'ma go store"

yooperism

Regional phrases known in Northern Michigan, used to express various sentiments and emotions.

Some examples of yooperisms are the phrases "Holy Wah" or "Yah hey der." Another example is the use of the word "da" instead of the common enlish form "the" infront of a word; ie. "da lake."

The Yooper is another term for the taint or bass. Area between your genitals and your ass. Commonly used by midwesterners, more specifically those who reside in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.

Yooper Cooler

A Yooper Cooler is an ingenious device first devised by the native peoples of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The 'First People' of The Big North Woods first used it as a way of preserving food during the long winter months, now they are constructed as a economical way for Yoopers to keep their PBR cold.

The Yooper Cooler is constructed with a large pile of snow packed down and frozen by the UP's freezing temps. Shelves are constructed inside for accomidation of beer, bier, lager, ales, IPAs, Dopplebocks, and Pilsners. Many variations can be found throught Big Snow Country, and generally vary based on region, culture, and BAC at time of construction.

Not to be confused with the inferior Canadian Refrigerator. Which is a similar yet completely flawed version, just like the country it shares its name with.

Toivo-"Whats that big pile of snow outside?"
Aino- " Oh thats the Yooper Cooler, eh."
Toivo-"So youse guys biult one already dis winter,hey"
Aino- "Oh yea. Dountcha knowse its gonna be a big snow year"
