shellac

A derogatory repurposing of the original word ("shellac" usually refers to lac resin which is often melted down to make varnish, or, to the purpose here, a thin varnish containing the lac resin) which is used to characterize someone of thin character; all surface, no substance.
A frequently misheard line in The Beastie Boys' "3-Minute Rule:" "'Cause I'm running things like a shellac motherfucker."
