Rent

A mainstream musical posing as revolutionary with excellent melodies and dance and sound, but cliche, hackneyed, ridiculously abstract lyrics, interwoven with a few good songs. A good show, but terribly overrated. A good message, but relayed in a terribly melodramatic way. Interesting characters, but terribly underdeveloped. Glorifies neediness and the misuse of condoms leading to AIDS. Appeals to drama freaks who are often preppies in disguise. The great irony of the year (2006) is seeing girls in their Billabong shirts and Abercrombie and Fitch mini-skirst singing "La Vie Boheme." As a wise man once said, "Rent is worse than AIDS."

Ok, so, I went to American Eagle Outfitters and bought the CUTEST DRESS and I'm gonna borrow my friend's combat boots from Hot Topic so I can sing "Take Me Out Tonight" from Rent, my favorite musical, with a bunch of attention whores.

RENT

In middle school, it was Rocky Horror. In high school, it was RENT. RENT is what passes for counterculture these days. A 19th century musical about tuberculosis stripped of its dignity and painted up with AIDS and cheap whore makeup. Every white suburban kid with a DVD player goes absolutely bonkers for this travesty, and such a reaction probably stems from the darkest, deepest part of the brain known as liberal guilt. Of course they don't want to pay their rent. They're too busy buying smack and singing about how tortured they are by their artistic spirits. Give me a break.

RENThead: do you want to watch RENT with me?
me: what?? no, i'm leaving
RENThead: we're on a moving bus
me: PAVEMENT IS MORE APPEALING

A sucky movie based on a play every white teenager I know who lives in the suburbs thinks is spectacular. Apparently breaking a nail helps you to identify with AIDS patients.

Full of ridiculous dialog and okay songs, plus the most ludicrous ending ever created (raising your dead hooker friend from the grave through song)

A pointless movie/musical in which homosexual and HIV/AIDS infected people decide they're not going to pay they're rent. They dance around and sing while they rebel about how they're not going to pay their rent.

I watched RENT last night but turned it off because it had no point to it.
