Palaeology means studying fossils, they are excavated from the rock and taken to a lab for study, every now and again a new species will be discovered in fact some fossils where found in China a few weeks ago

Palaeology uses happens like what happened here: Neil Shubin excavated most of Tiktaalik and took the skull and body to his lab for study
