first i just want to say, before i start my definition, that soultoast is an idiot because he cannot spell simple words such as "unrecognized", "instrument", and "beauty" so just disregard his definition altogether.

a bassist is a person who either plucs, picks, or slaps a bass. generally more musically inclined than a guitarist since the guitarist(and ill admit it because i am one) plays mostly for show(unless classically trained because thats different from rock and metal of sorts). bassists dont usually get solos because its not part of their job description but when they do it is usually amazing. ex: anesthesia. as great and important a bassist is to making music, he will never be cooler than the guitarist. i say that with all honesty.

contrary to popular belief, cliff burton wasnt metallica's first bassist, ron mcgovney was. cliff burton was fucking awesome though.

Bassist's Finger

Bassist's Finger is a condition among most finger picking bassists,that when blisters form and break on the Thumb, index finger , middle finger,and/or (sometimes) ring fingers of the strumming hand and create sores about the size of a water drop on the finger. Generally the blisters appear after a lot of slap/pluck technique or strumming in general for a allotted period of time.

Person 1. Dude! What happened to your finger?

Person 2. I got Bassist's Finger during my show last night.

Person 1. I bet it hurts like hell!

Short for "Bass Guitarist."

I must take issue with the idea that Punk Bassists are no good, because I can name at least three who excelled: Jah Wobble, Peter Hook, Norman Watts-Roy. QED

However - Kids, note: playing the root note of the chord eight times in a bar does NOT constitute a bass-line!

The first great bassist in rock music was John Entwistle (RIP).
The greatest exponent of the fretless bass was Jaco Pastorius (also RIP).
The greatest living bassist is Flea (not RIP yet ;-) ).

1) A musician who plays the bass guitar (or bass); the long version is a bass guitarist.

And apparently...
2) A person who hates bass or bass guitarist (combining a word such as "racist" to "bass")
Although, that gets extremely and ironically confusing.

~ "Oh my god! That bassist is fighting the bassist!"
- "Uh, what? You mean that two bass players are hitting each other?"
~ "No! It started when a bassist in the audience was talking down the bassist on the stage."
- "Why?"
~ "Because that bassist insulted that bassist for being a bassist, what a bassist wouldnormally do."

Bacist

A term used to describe something that is not to someone's liking. It is now called out when an individual is in frustration. The original meaning of the word was when something was bias towards race, but the definition has been altered since then. The word is known as a blend of "bias" and "racist". It's normally said at a specific situation.

female bassist

A female bassist is a girl who's too tough to sing and too cool to play guitar. Often stereotyped as lesbian for high amounts of testosterone (a bass is a really heavy, four-stringed guitar). Like other bassists, female bassists come in two styles: reserved and cool, or freaking insane.
