A term for the feeling of going back and forth between liking/loving and disliking/hating a character due to their actions.

The term originated from when me and my friends watched "The Handmaid's Tale". Like wtf Serena?

"For fuck sake, Serena! You took one step forward and now you take five steps back! Like, what the fuck?! It's literally been five minutes! I was starting to like you again!"

The Jason Mayer Effect

A narcissistic, dramatic, attention seeking, pathological liar, scandalous, opportunistic, person who not only embodies but has mastered every single clinical trait that defines a Narcissist. A person who uses others to get ahead, chews them up, spits them out. This lunatic of a person projects upon their victims the same disturbing character flaws that they use to destroy these very same victims and then use smear campaigns to manipulate others perceptions of who is the villain and who is the victim....most confuse the victim with the villain but don't be fooled. Best advice is to look for these traits and when you recognize them in an individual understand that The Jason Mayer Effect is a birth defect that can't be cured and run. These people cannot be rehabilitated for their is no cure.

Oh no! He is tucking his Weiner in his buttcheeks again...begging for attention by trying to fit in with the Trans community...how insulting ......must be plagued with The Jason Mayer Effect !!!

The Dane Cook Effect

1. When an entertainer or public figure has a fan base that becomes so obnoxious, annoying and generally despised, that the entertainer or public figure becomes the object of scorn, ridicule and hate by the public, despite the fan base being the actual problem, not the entertainer or public figure
2. When a person, group, movement or thing gains such significantly high level of popularity, that it actually causes an equal and opposite reaction from the public creating a subculture of near equal popularity that hates the source of popularity

1. Despite suffering from The Dane Cook Effect, Insane Clown Posse managed to stay consistent and at least gain some respect from the public for their ability to understand merchandising and utilize a good marketing strategy.
2. Even though conservationism is practical and pragmatic, too many annoying self righteous douches contaminated the public image of conservation leading to The Dane Cook Effect causing people do the opposite out of spite.

The Richard Nixon effect

The Richard Nixon effect named after the president of the same name.

When a solution, produces the opposite outcome, opposite to the intended purpose, this can have very harmful outcome that is counterproductive.

And example of the Richard Nixon effect is when the School decided to ban physical contact. The students started high fiving way more often. The Richard Nixon effect is an example of making things illegal doesn’t fix the problem.
