A label people give to themselves to see themselves in a certain way, and/or to hope that other people will see them in this way also. There are many definitions of dress-code and personality types, (some would say that they are really creative and intelligent, others would say that they are people who have experienced more pain than most people) but it's just a label that was invented by ordinary people and for ordinary people, probably out of attention-seeking. Now the word seems to be spoken in two ways: As an insult to people who seem this way, and by people who are this way to describe themselves or maybe friends of theirs.

Example I:
-"Hey, there's that stupid goth."
-"Yeah, what an asshole. Let's throw stuff at him/her."

Example II:
-"Oh yeah, I am SUCH a goth."
-"Can you define 'goth' for me, then?"
-"*Insert one of thousands of definitions here*"

A weird, frightening person with a hideous, satanic appearance. Love to wear black clothing (usually with chains) and makeup. Hair often tends to be NOT one of the four natural colors. They act like they're devil-worshippers and are really looking like that just to scare people away.

Goth=those fucking black clouds that think they are so totally depressed and fucked up that people will notice them. Usually they turn goth because 1)They have no friends 2) They are fucking ugly and decided to make the best of the situation 3) It's the latest trend. Goths fuck up the musical world for the rest of us that like death metal/black metal, because by listening to shit they don't even understand and trying to get noticed people automatically assume that death/black metal is as superficial and stupid as goth itself. Great bands such as Slayer, Arch Enemy, In Flames and Emperor are spoiled daily by these make up wearing freakshows. There is no such thing as a "real" goth. Edgar Allen Poe was a great writer, but not someone you can base your entire image on. In short, goths are posers that spoil music for the rest of us and should be burned.

Goths wear black, have several piercings, ridiculously overdone make-up and emanate fuckface rays.
