I couldn't decide what sounded better confused or puzzled. So I just wrote confuzzled.

Confuzzled

(Con-Fuzz-Lled) A State of Fuzzy-Confusion. Beyond regular confusion; Fuzzy memory and/or chronic confusion. (NOTE: Not the same as Amnesia or memory loss. This is just a state of extreme confusion.)

As I began to search for my house keys, I became confuzzled. I soon found out I had been holding them in my hand the whole time.
