A lame attempt at making what some people call "music" and others call "poetry" - it all sounds the same, all has the same beat and usually has meaningless lyrics. The music videos can mostly be described as mild porn.

A Music Genre of speaking Poetry over a beat. Used to have a meaning but nowadays doesnt have a meaning at all. Nobody ever raps anymore they just talk over the mic, Eminem, T.I., Nas, and Jay-Z, Royce da 5'9, Wu Tang Clan, Lupe Fiasco, and Dr. Dre may be the only real rappers left, Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy just straight up killed it.

Eminem and all of Shady Records (excluding 50 Cent), Rakim, 2Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, T.I., Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, Big Pun, Lupe Fiasco, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, Royce Da 5'9, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, LL Cool J, Big L, Nate Dogg, Esham, Xzibit, DMX, UGK, Ice-T, Bone Thugs, Kurupt, Ice Cube, Redman, Scarface and all of the Geto Boys are all real rap. But only 20% of that list is still in the game.

Lil Wayne, Drake, Ja Rule, Soulja Boy, Nelly, Paul Wall, Insane Clown Posse, Hurricane Chris, Flo Rida, Pitbull, Black Eyed Peas, Kid Cudi and Sean Kingston are all commercialized mainstream rap that doesnt have any talent whatsoever and they are all I hear about with the dumbass kids at my school.

a genre of music brutally bashed on by spoiled filthy rich white "people", who don't seem to care about anyone but themsleves. not only did the whites take everything from the blacks, but now that many blacks want to create a music of their own and possibly get out of a life of pain and sometimes crime that they live, whites continue to hate the music for no reason. they seem to think they are better because they are rich and can have all the finest instruments. rappers mostly can only afford a beat-making machine, and use their mind to come up with brilliant poetry, using the half of their brain that the whites are missing. trying to be unique and use lyrics, a beat, and some background music, rather than be like the other types of "music" that use "instruments", whites continue to hate rap because it does not use any, and seem to think the ONLY music is made by instruments, which is not true. whites insult the stupid gangsta rappers and mainstream fags, not realizing there are actually lyricists who make phenominal lyrics. either the whites know nothing about true rap or they are just too dumb to comprehend anything else that what they think is cool. their tiny brains can ONLY appreciate rock and they think that anything that is not rock is shit. rock music is used to brainwash and disorient idiots like the whites. I cannot change rock-fans because they are too stupid and fucked up to agree, knowing that all this is true. curse the day rock "music" was born!!! I hope rap can save music!!!

OK, Ive read a lot of your posts and have come to the fact aht a lot of them are ignorant. I used to listen to rap so i can have a say on whether it sucks or not. The reason i stopped listening to rap is becuas eI got bored and it all started to sound the same. I switched over to metal, and I love it, becuase metal has about 30 different sub-genres liek nu-metal, classic metal, death metal, black metal, etc. Rap there is only 1 genre which is rap. Just some guys saying "poetic crap" yes i do respect some liek 2 pac and that actually rap about something. And also people say its hard to make the rythm and the lyrics. I have a program on my computer where i made a rap rythm in 2 minuits and it sounds great. And the way rap is made the lyrics are easy becuase there is to chorus and no guitar solo so really there is no talent in rap at all. Sorry guys.

Rap 

A modern style of music characterized by fast rhythmic rhyming backed by a drum beat. Lyrics are often explicit. Choruses are often slower than verses. Some popular rappers are Eminem, Lil Wane, Jay-z and Snoop Dog. Rap music is often pointless and a waste of time. You can barely understand the lyrics and every song sounds the same. Rap has no depth to it it's just some guy talking fast with a beat. Rockis real music not rap. Rap is crap music. Long live ROCK!!!!!

Formerly glorious form of music. It's Golden Era has long passed (mid 80's - mid 90's). Pretty much 90% of it today is horrible and is unbearable to listen, except for some.

Typical white man's stereotype of rap music that is it by an ignorant black person who talks about dealing drugs and killing people. This is because most white people don't know the struggle that these rappers have gone through. They hypocritically judge ALL rap music as being obsolete. Is this not the same as racism?

Some people just don't have trained ears. They can't understand deep lyrics, so they just listen to their "I Can't Drive 55" or "This love has taken its toll on me" and praise it, then wonder later on how come the song gets old a month later. Its because of the bland, simple lyrics. There is no reading in between the lines in most other forms of music.

Rappers turned sellouts/R&B singers or R&B singers turned rappers have ruined rap. Party music is garbage. 50 Cent, Chingy, Nelly, Lil' Jon, Ciara, Ying Yang Twins, GARBAGE. Most radio stations play garbage. It's understandable how you misunderstand rap.

Many people think that its all about drugs, money, violence, and sex. But its really not, most mainstream rap is about these, but thats not the good rap. And besides, don't have they most of that in every genre of music. Blues has many references to drugs. Metal has violence in it ( Raining Blood ). Elvis sung about women so once you think abotu it its like every other genre of music. The underground rap is usually better then mainstream. Tupac is considered the best rapper ever. Rap stands for Rythem and Poetry. Many people consider snap music like D4L and Dem Franchize Boyz or Soulja Boy to be rap but its not real rap, just a spinoff of crunk.
