Single-Anomaly Veto

The tactic of using a single exception to veto an entire generalization, no matter how well-supported. Single-anomaly veto is what happens when one counterexample—real or imagined—is used to dismiss mountains of evidence. It's the logic of "some smokers live to 100, so smoking doesn't cause cancer," of "one study found no effect, so all the other studies are wrong." The single-anomaly veto is beloved of denialists, who can always find an exception and use it to veto the rule. The cure is recognizing that generalizations are about patterns, not absolutes; exceptions prove the rule only in the sense of testing it, not disproving it.

Single-Anomaly Veto Example: "She presented decades of research showing climate change. He responded with the single-anomaly veto: 'But it snowed last week! So much for global warming.' One snowstorm, one exception, used to veto the entire climate record. The fallacy was breathtaking in its audacity, and also completely effective with those who wanted to believe it."

Normal Anomaly Theory

A theory proposing that anomalies proven to be true—genuine exceptions to established patterns, genuine discoveries that should overturn existing frameworks—are systematically normalized or ignored in the short and medium term. The theory suggests that even when overwhelming evidence confirms an anomaly, the dominant paradigm absorbs, minimizes, or excludes it rather than allowing it to disrupt business as usual. A genuine scientific revolution doesn't happen when the evidence arrives; it happens decades later, when the old guard dies, and the anomaly can finally be acknowledged for what it was all along. Normal Anomaly Theory explains why paradigm shifts take generations, why whistleblowers are destroyed before they're vindicated, and why "revolutionary" discoveries are often treated as minor curiosities until the revolutionary generation gains power. The anomaly is proven; it's just not accepted—because acceptance would require too much change.

Example: "The data had been clear for years, but the field carried on as if nothing had happened—Normal Anomaly Theory in action, treating a paradigm-shattering discovery as just another footnote until enough of the old guard retired."

Hawaiian Shirt Anomaly

Although a rational man such as Phill is unlikely to fall for superstitions, his dedication to BL5 and the effort that he has put into improving it might cause an anomaly to occur. This anomaly might cause unreasonable amount of downtimes and seemingly impossible situations where there can only be one possible reason... Someone has the Hawaiian shirt on.

The DAP is rumored to be transitioning to a public-facing role, aiming to share findings and collaborate with governments worldwide. Think of it as a mix between scientific research and X-Files-level investigations.
