Bending Argument

Crafting an argument that, while perhaps containing true premises, uses rhetorical sleight-of-hand, emotional manipulation, or procedural tricks to guide the listener to an unwarranted conclusion. It's an argument built like a funhouse mirror—the components are real, but the overall reflection is a distorted version of reality. This includes shifting burden of proof, using loaded questions, or appealing to irrelevant authority.

Example: "The lawyer bent the argument for the jury: 'My client is a family man, a volunteer, a patriot. The prosecution wants you to believe this pillar of the community suddenly became a criminal. Perfect Argument Fallacy

The mistaken belief that only arguments that are flawless in every respect—logically valid, empirically supported, rhetorically perfect, immune to all objections—deserve consideration. This fallacy rejects all human communication as insufficiently perfect, leaving only silence. The perfect argument fallacy is beloved of those who don't want to engage, who use impossible standards to dismiss any position they dislike. It's the logic of "your argument isn't perfect, therefore I don't have to consider it." The cure is recognizing that perfection is not the standard; adequacy is. Arguments are tools for understanding, not museum pieces for aesthetic evaluation.

Perfect Argument Fallacy Example: "He demanded her argument be perfect—no logical gaps, no empirical uncertainties, no rhetorical flaws. She pointed out that no argument meets that standard, including his own. He said that proved her argument was weak. The perfect argument fallacy had made dialogue impossible. She stopped talking; he declared victory."

The David Argument

"The David Argument" is a form of argument that is made when you have no actual comeback or good argument, often used by people that has poor debating skills and usually ends up in the losing side of a debate. This type of argument often starts off with "says the guy that..." and follows up with a personal attack against the other person (sometimes against the other persons family members or relatives) with no correlation to the subject being discussed whatsoever. This form of argument is said to be originated from a individual that was called "David" hence the name "The David Argument".

"Why are you using "The David Argument", cant you come up with better arguments?"

" Oh you're using "The David Argument" now, shows how poor your debating skills are"

The Chard Argument

The logic whereby nothing you do is ever good or pure enough.

Named after the core example where someone can be on a diet and no matter how effective it is, there's always someone who will criticize some dietary choice you made, the logical conclusion being that the only way to prevent this from happening would be if all you ever ate was chard.

Happening more and more in left-leaning circles where people frequently criticize other people for not being "woke enough".

"I lost 50 pounds in 3 months!"

"oh but if you'd have cut rice out of your diet, it would be so much healthier."

"yeah, thanks for throwing the chard argument at me"
