When an abuser gives a gift in an attempt to make up for an instance of abuse. The victim takes this as an apology or promise of change and things go back to normal, with normal being a short period of time until the abuse happens again.

robo-gifting

The act of buying large quantities of a usually cheap item to give as unwanted gifts to weary relatives and friends. A robo-gifter also has to keep a spreadsheet or ledger of what gifts they have given and to whom so they don't give the same gift to the same person on different occasions.

I know that I am a victim of robo-gifting, because half of the people that Clara knows got a bottle of hand sanitizer for Christmas, including me!
