An island originally inhabited by the Arawak Indians known as the Taínos (The good people) their history on the island goes as far back as 1,000 B.C. The natives named the Island Borikén (Land of the Brave) and referred to themselves as Boricuas.
On his second voyage from Spain in 1493 Christopher Columbus accidentally came across the island and decided to claim the land under the rule of Spain. With the power of the ”Catholic Church” invested in him, Columbus renamed the island to what we know today as Puerto Rico.
This island became a colony and was under Spanish rule for 500 years. As time went on, the population grew in diverse numbers with a African, Indigenous, and European diaspora. The people of the island grew tired of the Spanish rule and formed “El Grito de Lares” (Cry of Lares) which was an independence movement. The independence was short lived only to be invaded by the United States. Just to be a colony or a “commonwealth” again for the next 100 years.
The people are divided between voting for Independence v. Statehood v. Status quo (remain as is) causing a separation amongst the people, it currently remains status quo. However, more and more people are fighting for independence due to recent political events taking place on the mainland (USA) and on the island.
Facts:
-The island is Three times bigger than the states Rhode Island & Delaware.
-Puerto Rico is bigger than Singapore which just so happens to be one of the richest countries in the world.

Puerto Rico is the island so beautiful on which nobody in his right mind wants to live. This shithole is bragged about as being paradise only by those Puerto Ricans living in the mainland who know they have a way out. This is the perfect place to go if you are white and would like to part ways with your wallet. Many Puerto Ricans claim to speak Castillian Spanish and pick to pieces Anglo Spanish teachers who believe in the grammatical purtiy of Spanish. Only a small fraction of Puerto Ricans living in the U.S. proper can create a grammatical construction in Spanish. If you have actually met a Puerto Rican male who has read one novel (novella for our latino friends) you have met a true celebrity.

an island just next to Dominican Republic which is where the party is at. People who know how to dance, sing and use those wide hips they are born with. Luckily these people roam the whole world, wherever you go if you shout a bad word in Spanish loud enough someone will scream back and I can assure you said person will be a puertorrican. They will be loud and they will be bossy but hey they learned from the best (the americans themselves). If you ever visit their island make sure that you don't offend anyone because no matter how week they look they are stronger than you and they will have their families with them. I get why people insult the lovely loud speaking Puertorrican critters but at heart they are the nicest most trust worthy people you will ever meet.
person 1: Hey, Hey PUTA! (slut)
Puerto Rican fellow from a near by tree: AYEEEEEEe YOu from my island Puerto Rico?!

An island that is part of the united states. They are for the most part, self governing. They collect welfare, pay taxes, and vote all for the us government.

La isla del encanto. If its so beautiful and enchanted then perhaps ricans should go back. Puerto Rico is an econmic burden to the United States allowing the wild and crazy proud natives to freely wander into the united states (primarily florida) and ruin our lives. They are loud and obnoxious creatures that fail to shut up. As entry #5 stated, they are becoming an infestation. So much so that over 300 of them have negatively thumbed the previous entry.
