KompAkoustik

KompAkoustik, is the Haitian Acoustic Kompa style of the
MTV Unplugged which showcase Haitian musical artists playing a combination of their hit songs and covers with acoustic instruments or unplugged

Characterised by typical instruments:

acoustic guitar, Piano, bongos,

Upright bass, percussions,
congas, timbales, trumpet, trombone, claves, cowbell, maracas, güiro, Jam block, Beatbox, souble bass,

flute, saxophone, vibraphone, violin, tres, cuatro. Vocals and Chorus.

An KompAkoustik performance is a very important commercial event for Haitian Kompa musicians as it gives the bands a great opportunity to expand their audience by performing for crowds and it slso offer their fans a chance to experience favourite tunes in a new way.

Some KompAkoustik perfirmances are aired on Haitian televidions and some are streamed online-only.

Some perfornances take place in Haitian Lounged, Restaurants, from mainly the French-Creole speaking countries of the Caribbean, such as Haiti, Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe as well as Canada, France and Western Africa and Haitian communities in the Untited States.

KOMPA DRILL

KOMPA DRILL often mistakenly referenced as CREOLE-Trap, is a combination of Haitian Kompa, and Sample Drill music.

Characteristic features of KOMPA DRILL production include rap-talk-singing, Flow, “kata” (rim shot) (tresillo, live drums, (typically 80 to 120 beats per minute, or BPM), catchy short riff, Autotune, loops, 808 glides, ear-catching and singable melodies with manipulated Background vocal.

KOMPA DRILL uses replayed samples of older Kompa tracks by composing derivative version of the sample played live by an actual studio or session musician, thus giving it a nostalgic yet modern twist.

Key stylistic elements:

Call and Response, Chant-Rap, Vocalese, Ostinatos and rapped lyrics originated from the real-life experiences (often rap-sing in Haitian French-Creole, Crenglish, and CreoSpañol, FranSpañol which usually feature a guest artist or who 'd contribute a guest verse.

Other elements include a 12 bar bridge section played with a 5/4 timing over Rasin Mizik, (Haitian roots music with more pop-based melodies).

The lyrical content of Kompa drill music tends to be bawdy, cryptic, gritty pithy, provocative and full of voye pwen,” or “sending a point.”

A notable label of this kind of Kompa Drill Music is Negre Marron Records, an Int-y Independent internet record label which was founded in New York City ) 2018) by Rene Guemps.

The Haitian Kompa Music style of World Music or Global music,

It's often referred to simply as"Konpa Etno" in Haitian Creole, .

Though sang by Artist or singers of Non-Haitian origin, the instrumental s or bavkung tracks arw usually accompanied by live Kompa musicians of Haitian origin.

Simply put, it'a a hybrid style which incorporate elements of one or many genre of Non-Haitian music and combine them with Kompa themes, Musical Structures and Instruments

Electronic Music Technology or Electronic Musical Instruments such as Modern synthesizers, Sequencers, Sampler, Loops, Sound effects, MIDI
Drum machines, Modular synthesizer, Percussion, Personal computer,and Digital Audio Workstations (DAW), sound bites, sound effects can be used as well.

Other traditional ethnic instruments include: the didgeridoo, Sitar, Steel drums, pedal steel guitar

White Kompa

The term White Kompa is used to describe Haitian Kompa music sung by non-Haitian or French-Caribbean singers or artists.

usually Feature a lead vocalist and 2-3 backing Vocalists and sometime a guest-vocalist who 'd contribute a guest verse.

Characterized by and performed on typical musical instruments which are played only by Kompa musicians of Haitian origin.

Identifying factors include generally short to medium-length songs written in a variants.format

The recorded songs are often between three and five minutes in length.

Unlike Kompa Diect which which is very lyric-oriented-The lyrics in White Kompa songs don’t usually have any deep meaning,often the lyrics are frivolous and encourage dancing dancing due to it use of dance-oriented rhythms which generally dance to a mid-tempo with a 1-2 beat.

The origins of the genre and term was pioneered by Negre Marron Records' CEO and label Director René Guemps who always thought - if language was the barrier that stop Haitian Artist from crossing over or become mainstream to other mwrket - why not bring artist of non-Haitian Origin and have them crossover to Kompa music.

FYI: This is the first time in the history of the Haitian Music Industry (HMI) that a record label will be selling the beauty of an international artist from another race as a concept in a market that's not his or hers.
Myrtha was the one who suggested that we call the sub genre WHITE KOMPA instead of KomPOP, because most of the artists who sing that style of music are either from the United States, Canada or Europe
