A sound that is not part of the original signal. Distortion can be a modification of the original signal (intermodulation distortion), or generating new signals that result from the interference of a combination of signals (harmonic distortion). Can be characterized as a roughness, fuzziness, harshness, or stridency in the music. There are many distortions that can be measured: IM (intermodulation distortion), harmonic distortion, and TIM (transient intermediation distortion).

Distortion can cause breakup, where the headphone can’t handle the power or the low frequencies, which causes sound to crack up.

distance distortion factor

Phenomenon that occurs when seeing a person from a great distance. At such great distances the person has the potential for being attractive, but upon closer inspection is plain haggard. AKA "DDF".
Synonymous with "Fifty Yard Fakeout" and "Good from far but far from good".

"Hey Mike check out that blonde chick up there."
After passing without talking to her, "Wow that was a serious Distance Distortion Factor".

An effect used it many rock songs (Think Nirvana) that makes a guitar sound loud, gritty, and much more 'heavy hitting'

In 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' the opening riff is played clean twice then distortion kicks in.

Facebook Social Distortion Disorder (FSDD)

A social disorder that makes it possible for your close family and friends to forget about you if u are not currently active on facebook. Sufferers will actually stop emailing and texting you if you're not constantly reminding them of your existance via facebook updates. If you don't exist on facebook, you don't exist to them at all.

I deleted my pics on facebook, and no one called me for a month! I didn't even get invited to my own class reunion. Wow, I didnt know the class of 2000 had Facebook Social Distortion Disorder (FSDD).

an effigy distorted

Metal band from Orlando, Florida. These guys formed in 2010, and haven't recorded ANYTHING until 2012. They, along with all of their fans, agree that they suck, yet they're still around and people (like me) still go to their shows for no good reason.

" hey you know that band An Effigy Distorted?"
" yeah i went to their last show, they sucked, can't wait for the next one!"

-Akin to adding insult to injury.
-Any instance where a robust combination of unfortunate circumstances and humiliation converge.
