It became the highest rated show ever, averaging 47% (1/2 of all households) throughout the 50-60 episodes it lasted. it also became exceedingly popular in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan and Canada. It can be seen as one of the triggers to the recent Korean phenomenon that has gripped the Western world.
