The misinformer girl made a sucker of everyone, including the governor himself. Nobody questioned her intentions/legitimaticy, they just believed everything she said, and would do anything to the governor for her without questioning whether they really should, she had that kind of power over everyone.
Nobody told the misinformer girl to step down, since if they did that they would just be singled out, isolated, and intimidated by the media and everyone else over disagreement with what she was doing.
