This catastrophe could've been averted had we never entangled ourselves into slavery, which in the long term would have ensured a free and fair Tilden victory. It would've also ensured Al Gore his 2000 victory, as minority voters wouldn't have been disenfranchised in Florida. 124 years apart, and nearly the same circumstances.
