art school girl: (n) basically a female who attends art school who is also a hipster. Meaning they do all the hipster things including but not limited to, hanging out at danky coffee shops, wearing tight pants with a worn t shirt, etc., horned rimmed glasses, talk about politics, art, and bands that people probably never heard of because they think they're dope for knowing "good" music. They talk about cover art and buy vinyls instead of CD's. Because they think they're unique and don't want to conform to commercial america.

Art Douche
Someone who believes their art is superior to all others' and adds unnecessary meaning to everything they do. In their opinion, they are easily more talented than Picasso and need no critique of improvement.
Hayden was being such an art douche today in class, he wouldn't listen to anything the professor said and talked about his work as if it was a Picasso.

art rock
A broad term for a variety of bands, spanning all rock genres, that transcend the typical styles and themes of their genres. The band often combines experimental, avant-garde styles into their music. Because of the nature of art rock, the definition is a vague one and person A may consider a band art rock, while person B does not.
The term originated in reference to bands such as pink floyd, who's members originally went to art school, but now can apply to even bands such as Thursday and Mineral.
Often confused with progressive-punk. Indeed, they were once synonyms, but over time have diverged; prog becoming it's own genre of music while art rock maintaining loose and subjective to interpretation.

art matters
Art matters...well, it means art can make a real and tangible difference in people’s lives. With it you can express things that you hadn’t been able to in words. It’s a lasting representation of our past.
Here’s an example. The siege of Leningrad. The Germans had taken over Leningrad in WW2 for about two whole years, but the starving orchestra performed an amazing, compelling piece of music. They played it across the city and right in the Germans’ faces. Soon after, they gained back control of the city.

The term art matters encourages all of us to not only learn to make art, but to appreciate it it all its beauty. You don’t have to be good at it to know that it matters.
