Unlike the junior Bush, Harding actually succeeded an *un*popular President, in that Woodrow Wilson won re-election by promising not to get involved in World War I, then entered it anyway. Another departue from Bush was the sheer mediocrity of his successor, Calvin Coolidge, who was famous for spending most of his eight years at the golf course.
The G does not, in fact, stand for Gangster.
