The act of staying up 'illegally' past bedtime usually using an electronic gadget with the lights out as parents are certain you're asleep.

I can not believe mum expects me to be asleep by 7pm! Time for some hooting.
Stop asking me all these questions, I hooted last night so I can barely think right now.
