When someone responds to a sarcastic comment with seriousness and makes a fool of themelves, this is what you tell them.

Grasshopper Sarcasm

When in conversation, person A says something that person B knows is sarcastic but cannot detect the sarcasm in person A's voice. Derives from when a grasshopper is in the grass and you know it is there but you cannot see it.

After Steve has had a mild day of work/school mainly consisting of fooling around.
Steve: "Today was really tiring, I had loads to do"
Alan: "Really? Or is that just grasshopper sarcasm?"

Sgt. Sarcasm

A name for someone who throws sarcastic insults towards you. A really good comeback if someone calls you the infamous "Captain Obvious".

Dude 1: "The grass is green."
Dude 2: "Thank you, Captain Obvious."
Dude 1: "My pleasure, Sgt. Sarcasm!"

I love how Morgan Webb uses soft sarcasm to bash crappy and/or average games on X - Play.

meta-sarcasm

1. The act of being sarcastic about be being sarcastic.

Person #1: "Hey are you being sarcastic?" said in non-sarcastic voice.

Person #2: "No, I'm not being sarcastic," said in sarcastic voice.

Person #1: "Wait, are you using meta-sarcasm?" non-sarcastic.

Person #2: "Yes," said in sarcastic voice.

quantum sarcasm

When a person is either being sarcastic, albeit very dryly, or being serious and the person they are talking to can not tell whether or not they are being sarcastic or serious. They could be simultaneously serious or sarcastic at the exact same moment in time, thus quantum sarcasm.

Guy takes another man's sandwich and the man whose sandwich has been taken says "Go ahead and take it." in an inflected voice and direct stare. An uncomfortable moment passes because the man who took sandwich is now not sure of whether the other man is serious or is sarcastically remarking on the situation. Thus quantum sarcasm because sarcasm or seriousness are both equally valid options at the moment.
