Months before his death, he was measured at a height of 8' 11.1". His extraordinary growth began in infancy and was caused by an overactive pituitary gland. Those who knew him personally remembered him fondly, although he was seen as a curious spectacle by the masses. Sadly, he died of an infection caused by a faulty brace on his left foot. He was 22 years-old.
