a more colorful way of calling someone a 'hot mess', itself a way of calling someone a mess. The added color of 'tranny' and 'hot' takes the edge off of calling someone directly a 'mess'. It can have a range of connotation, from negative to neutral. Sometimes, ironically, it can be a compliment.
Alone, tranny is used as a greeting among gay men.

Gay#1: Heeey tranny.
Gay#2: HAAAY tranny!
Gay#1: Tranny, you are a hot tranny mess today; what'd you do last night?

A person, usually (but not necessarily) a woman, who is extremely attractive and dresses well, but has serious personality flaws that would make an actual relationship with them challenging.

Yeah, my ex is gorgeous and looks great in that Versace dress, but she called the cops every time I didn't text her back right away. That bitch is a hot mess.

xmess/x-mess

-An ex, but more so, an unreasonable one that was a total mess in numerous aspects of their life and the "relationship".

-An impossible person who was mentally off, hostile, toxic, and with numerous baggage.

There goes Daizy, she's my xmess/x-mess. I tried to make it work, but she had massive issues with trust, communication, empathy, her childhood, intimacy, guys, & people in general. A grumpy & hateful Negative Nicole my xmess/x-mess was. Rude, uncaring, assuming, unbending, self-centered, & delusional. It was a relief when the mess with my x ended, she's such an xmess/x-mess. If anything I feel bad for my xmess/x-mess, and hope the poor girl gets the help she needs.
