When a person is frightened of aspects of themselves. They may also be scared of the unknown aspects of themselves.

After being told that you could achieve anything you wanted, you froze like a self loathing chameleon. You've got problems, you're dealing with a case of "yourself phobia".

Respect Yourself

A phrase used when someone does or says something ridiculously disrespectful that makes them look foolish.

It is also used in reference to an action that is disrespectful, so you are telling the person who took that action that they should do better and be more respectful.

Random guy at bar: Let's go back to my place and "talk" some more.

Woman he just met: I just met you 5 mins ago. That's not happening. Respect yourself .

As a metaphor - to destroy a chance for something good with silly, easilly avoidable mistake.
Synonym for self-sabotage.
