Mormon

(n.) a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The largest church to be established in America, therefore known as the "American Religion", it is a world wide church with over 13 million members across the globe. "Mormonism" is a branch of Christianity, and consider the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon to be it's primary religious texts. The LDS (or Mormon) church is centered around the family unit, and it's purpose is to help people to return to a Heaven and a Heavenly Father there who created all of humanity, to leave for eternity with their families and at God's side. This is achieved by following the teachings of Heavenly Father (God), which were taught by Jesus Christ, the prophets of Biblical times, and the prophets of the LDS church in these latter days.
The LDS church is most commonly known for it's high moral code, which includes:
-Honoring the laws of the land
-No consumption of alcohol, tobacco, tea, coffee, or anything that takes away the agency (the greatest gift of God to his children) of man on this Earth. (these are believed to take away your agency because they are addictive)
-Complete sexual chastity until marriage, including any sexual behaviors such as pornography, masturbation, and sexual contact.
-Protection of your body as a holy temple, which includes abstaining from any illegal drug use, tattoos, more than 1 set of ear piercings for women, dressing modestly, and not consuming alcohol, tobacco, coffee or tea.

mormon

People who believe in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; also (less accurately) known as the Mormon religion. Being Christian, (for they believe in and accept Christ as their Savior, and also strive to live a Christ-centered and Christ-like life), they also believe that Jesus Christ is what the Bible says He is: the son of God the Father. They do not believe in the Trinity, but rather the Godhead: that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are physically seperate but one in purpose. Many Mormons live in Utah, but the religion is practiced throughout the world. They believe in the Bible and also the Book of Mormon. They believe that the church of Jesus Christ (the same church/religion that Christ established when He came to this world) was restored to its fullness by Joseph Smith through the power of God for the preparation of the Second Coming of Christ.

mormon temple

A very architecturally beautiful building both inside and out, built using faithful mormon's money. The atmosphere is similar to a library's. The temple is considered the holiest place on earth for mormons, and as God's house on earth. It is here that they perform "the ordinances of salvation" for both the dead and the living. The ordinances performed are the following:

1. Baptisms for the dead

2. Ordaining to the priesthood for men who died without receiving it

3. Confirmations for the dead, where a proxy is "confirmed" a member of the mormon church, and given the gift of the holy ghost

4. Washing and anointings for both the living and the dead

5. The endowment for both the living and the dead. Basically a "christianized" version of masonic ceremonies, modified by mormonism's founder Joseph Smith, who himself was a free mason.

6. Sealings (aka Eternal Marriage) for both the dead and the living

7. The second anointing. Most mormons don't even know about this ceremony, and as far as I know it's only performed at a certain few of the larger temples. It consists of two parts - one performed in the temple, and one performed by the married couple in their own home. They are sealed up unto heaven for their righteousness.

So, to sum everything up, temples are beautiful buildings, wherein strange symbolic rituals are performed to guarantee your salvation.
