Similarly to nick completion, people often configure their irc clients to automatically complete often used phrases, for example 'g' to tab complete to GETFUCKED.

However, GETFUCKED is not considered the most polite thing to say in everyday conversation, so it evolved to g<tab>

A commonly used DeviantArt daMN term colloquially used to describe an effective way of addressing the username without typing it out. It is more commonly used addressing the wrong user however.

tab rat

A person who compulsively collects and keeps many tabs open on their web browser. Also a person who refuses to close a tab on their web browser for fear that they will regret it in the future, and so ends up compiling more tabs day after day.

My one friend is such a tab rat; she's so obsessed with fanfiction that every time she finds a new link to a new fic, she will keep it open on her browser until the foreseeable future in case she needs to re-read it.

A tab you keep open in your internet browser to quickly switch to so those around you don't know what you're really doing. Most used when looking up porn while family members are home, or for when you're goofing off at work.

I didn't want my mom to walk in and see me looking up porn, so I kept a safe tab open just in case.
