word on the street

information or gossip derived from sources outside mainstream society, usually judged as more reliable by the criminal underclass and mafiosi/gangster-types.
Carlo Bartolucci: That phone call I got, it came from outside high walls and fancy gates; it comes from a place you know about maybe from the movies. But I come from out there, and everybody out there knows, everybody lies: cops lie, newspapers lie, parent's lyin'. The one thing you can count on - word on the street... yeah, that's solid.

cross the street

An act of precautionary racism, crossing the street is undertaken by white men or women when a larger number of young black men are walking towards them on the same side of an otherwise quiet or dark street. While it is becoming more widely recognised that most black men are non-aggressive, it's better to be safe than sorry.
I saw a black man coming towards me while I was wearing my Nikes and listening to my IPod, so thought I'd cross the street early just in case.

Chicago Street Sweep

Performed by a pair of males, first a dead prostitute must be located, then a coin flipped. He who wins the coin toss must jump on the dead prostitute's stomach, while he who loses the coin toss places his mouth over the dead prostitute's vagina and eats whatever contents are projected forth.
Dude this ho is dead, flip a coin and we'll give her the good ol' Chicago Street Sweep.

Beats Street Tavern

used to describe your favorite watering hole when an unwanted friend overhears your description of the previous nights exploits. The misdirection is used so that said unwanted friend will not show up to your favorite establishment in the future.
Pete Dick: "Me and T. Gay really got fuck up last night."
The Cooker: "damn, when I left you were still jacking for beats and seemed fairly socially lubricated."
Pete Dick: "Well we Irished Ourselves pretty good."
Uncle Freddie: "Where was this?"
Pete Dick and the Cooker: "the Beats Street Tavern."
Uncle Freddie: "Where is that."
Pete Dick: "Jones Road"
