This occurs due to the proximity of the reprimanding tone and the overall vibe, even though you are not the target.

Secondhand Mistake

A mistake that you made due to someone else's original mistake. Think of a 3 car crash as an example. If you get rear-ended and then hit the person in front of you, is it really your fault?
