middle kingdom

An archaism for China, often invoked by brainy people talking about Chinese ambition. "Middle" refers to the ancient (or not) idea that China is the radial source of all civilization in the entire world and that all non-Chinese people are barbarians.
The continuing Chinese occupation of Tibet is just another example of the Middle Kingdom's disregard for basic human rights when they conflict with its agenda.
