Not Gothic

"Not Gothic" is what actual Goths call "Hot Topic". No self respecting Goth owns anything from or ever sets foot in Hot Topic for any reason. Also referred to as "Lukewarm Discussion".
Nice Evanescence shirt, poseur. Do a little shopping at Not Gothic, did we?

Goth

The goth, that thing that lies at the opposite end of the spectrum of society to the chav.
A goth will walk alone where a chav will hide inside his herd and though the goth may take a beating at least that goth was never a coward.
A goth will insult only those who have earnt it whereas a chav will insult people for things as shallow as the clothes they are wearing.
A goths insult will be witty and cutting, a chavs insult more often than not will consist of the chav making a repulsive noise.
A goth will enrich their mind, a chav will watch soaps.
In the morning, a goth will ask themselves “what do I want to wear?” whilst a chav will ask themselves “what in this selection of clothes is the most acceptable thing to wear?”
A goth will have a friend because they are good for someone, a chav will have a friend because that someone is good for them.
A goth approaches new situations with a willingness to think and find the best way forward, a chav will react with aggression to that which it does not already know.
A goth will listen to music that is meaningful to their life and thought provoking, a chav will listen to music which will tell him how to behave.

Goths have no interest in popularity whatsoever. They think outside the box. People aspire to be popular and dress in certain ways that are ‘in’ with everyone else simply because it has never occurred to them how pointless societies values really are. In truth, there was never any point to any one of us being born. We’re doomed to struggle onwards in our skins, attached to life only by mechanisms put in our minds by evolution never to find any relief and never to find any meaning. We’re just all stuck with it now, together (and yuk to the simply stunning amount of ignorance I have to put up with). Conformity assumes that what another has thought of is better than what you can think of on your own but why is one mind better than another? (the conformist who argues that their own opinion is truth is a hipocrite, a really ridiculous laughable hipocrite) Its not is the truth. I am a goth and I aspire to value my own intuitions as much as I would value anyone elses (as much, not more you fools!) therefore I don’t care if you don’t like me because I DO.

I look strikingly different to everybody else, you chavwits think I am attention seeking when in fact I look different because of my total lack of interest in you lot, you lot and that vile sort of dress code that is ‘the norm’. Its not that I want you to notice me, its just that I haven’t bothered to noticed you!

I do as I please! But then again, so say the chavs.
The difference in effect is that I have a brain.
I realise that randomness of behaviour (as in anarchy) is a force of pure destruction without the input of thought. I know what I want for myself, plenty of cash, love, freedom, peace and I know that that’s pretty much what everybody else wants too. Therefore, I treat others as I wish to be treated myself. I would never stand in the way of anothers achievement because if I did how would I deserve to achieve anything of my own? Goths, in my experience (others as well as myself) are thoughtful, intelligent, hard working, kind, honest, well mannered. I have an education and I like when it shows!
As a goth, all you various ‘rude’ forms of life make me sick. Goth is what the individuals do- and as for the idea of the wannabe goth these either revert to conformity or evolve.(I mean slipknot/korn fans, as for manson fans I think those who say he isn’t gothic just don’t know enough about him- sure listening to manson WILL NOT make you gothic, but give that poor dark philisophical soul some credit! He’s certainly not gonna un-goth you!) Wannabes are a transitional category but if they are to be acknowledged at all, they are not goths.
Goths make the greatest friends. Goths have the unusual ideas. Goths just don’t suffer from the same afflictions of ‘normality’ as you self-mirroring lot- change for once. down with mediocrity.
try the question why are we here? it might get you thinking
try focusing on the meaning of things rather than your pre-held assumptions about everything

goth

Initially a musical genre that emerged in the late 70s post punk era, Goth evolved into a full-blown sub culture a few years later with the evolution of Gothic fashion and imagery. A movement with a seemingly infinite ability to re-invent itself Goth has survived over 2 decades and has continued to evolve and grow in this time. However this propensity to re-invent itself has lead to a form of “identity crisis of Goth” in which even its most fervent adherents can no longer agree on a definitive answer to the question “What is Goth”.

In recent years the music industry has applied the term “Goth” rather broadly to various musical styles, which they seem unable to categorise, resulting in some confusion between various genres and the fans thereof. Unlike many of the subcultures than went before Goth does not seek to rebel against society, highlight its flaws (as was the case with the punks of the 70s) or define itself in terms of opposition to other sub cultural groupings (as was the case with the mods and the rockers of the 60s). As press interest in the genre continues, other sections of society have begun to define normality as “that which is opposed to Goth,” a common mainstream reaction faced by all subcultures at one time or another.
Goth music originated in the late 70s and has evolved and reinvented itself many times since

Gothardite

A derogatory term for those following the quasi-cultic teachings of William (Bill) Gothard, usually from his Basic Seminar or from the homeschooling organization named Advanced Training Institute (ATI).
Mark is such a Gothardite; he never listens to rock music or talks to girls at all.

Gothic

There is something horribly wrong with the way people view "goths". "Goths" are not always doom and gloom. They are not always listening to screaming, miserable music. And, oh, did you know, some "Goths" even wear different colors other than black? Ever heard of Bauhaus or Siouxsie and the Banshees? They're considered "goth" bands.

The culture is so much different from what people make it out to be. Being "goth" is a way of expressing yourself to your liking. Just as some might wear letterman jackets and other clothes. They're normal people with different views. You can't lump them into some little group because a bunch of teenyboppers decided they were going to slit their wrists and write horrible poetry. That's just the same as saying all "preps" worship their boyfriends and say 'like' all of the time. It's stupid and it's full of prejudice. Granted, prejudice is what seems to make the world go around lately.. Doesn't mean you have to give in to that trend of throwing out vile and disgusting words at something you don't understand.
"The Gothic scene and the mundane world have always been at odds. This rift is largely due to a miniscule breakdown in communication resulting simply from the misapplication of certain words."

pseudo goth

Anyone who tries to act "gothic," but isn't really gothic in nature.
Includes people who try to wear "gothic" clothing, get numerous piercings, or talk obsessively about darkness, death, and destruction, in order to either be cool, get attention, or be seen as dark and mysterious.
This does not apply to people who wear "gothic" clothing just because they like it, or people who really are goths. Psuedo goths are merely people who are posing as something they aren't.

The phrase also could be extended to those elements of popular culture that emulate the "goth" style or theme but are nonetheless mainstream in their making.

This could furthermore be extended to apply to some bands, but not nessecarily the ones listed in previous entries for this word.
1) Some pseudo goths were seen hanging around at the mall and terrorizing three-year-olds.
2)That shirt's pretty cool. The style's sorta pseudo goth, miked with raver.
3)That band is sorta pseudo goth.

Christian Goth

A Goth who believes Jesus is the son of God and everything else Christianity believes.

The good Christian Goths are the ones who are true to their faith and live their life as their beliefs entail.
The bad type of "Christian Goth," is one who tries to push other Goths into becoming Christian or worse is a (fake) "Goth" only because they want to convert others to Christianity. Mainly by either starting up a "Christian Goth band" or sponsoring an event that seems Goth oriented, but the unwilling victim doesn't know he/she is going to a Christian evangelism event until they walk into the place.
Real Christian Goth: "I might be depressed, but at least I believe in God and live my life right, and I am not going to push others into my beliefs but only lead by example."

Fake "Christian Goth": "Alright, how many new people we got at 'Damnation Fest' tonight? Eight? That's great, the new flier design worked and none of them suspected at all! Soon they will listen to some "Goth Music" about Jesus, and then we will give them some pamphlets warning them that they must become "Christian Goths" or burn in hell.
