upturned collar

An upturned collar, often called a "popped collar", is -- as the term obviously states -- a collar that has been upturned. It is best-known for its role during the 2000's as a part of "preppy" culture, something that many believe has worn out its welcome.

College Student 1: "My word, Lawrence, do you see that fellow student with the most audacious dress?"

College Student 2: "Egads! The youth with the upturned collar? Why, he must be visually impaired -- indeed, certainly! -- for he cannot see his current physical state; naturally, if he could, he would relieve his collar of its outdated duty posthaste!"

College Student 1: "Quite."

"double pop" which consists of a layer of two different, preferably brightly colored, polo shirts with the collars up - the result is really just delightful to the eye.

A modern-day version of the idiom "blue collar". Meaning working class, taken from the florescent yellow or orange high visibility safety gear workers are required to wear on building sites, in factories etc

White-Collar Slave

A college-educated twenty-something that has an unpaid internship and is working for free. They are usually supported financially by their parents and believe that their current sacrifices will lead to a paying job in the future, but they will not. Usually these jobs consist of going on coffee runs, making facebook and twitter posts, and accomplishing nothing over a 10-hour workday. Unpaid female interns are often an easy form of sexual release for their male superiors, especially in political campaigns.

"Did you hear Jenna got an internship at the capitol? I'm so proud of her."

"It's an unpaid internship. Don't be proud of her. She is a white-collar slave. She's also probably banging the congressman too."
