SHOOTAN GAEM

A pejorative term used to refer to video games deemed, by the user, as generic exercises in mindless action/shooting. Typically referring to a game of the FPS genre.

The capitalization and intentional misspelling of "game" attempt to mimic the crude online vernacular of the "typical" SHOOTAN GAEMer, assumed to be teenagers and those lacking in cognitive ability.

The phrase can also be altered and applied to other game genres, usually referencing the most most base, repetitive aspect of a genre's gameplay. A common example is "GRINDAN GAEM", applied to RPGs and MMOs, mocking the repetitive combat and level building, or "grinding", necessary for in-game advancement.

Originated on 4chan's /v/ (video game) image board.

Shorthand

A style of typing that noobs need to stop doing because it's driving people mad with their insensitivity of using poor spelling. It's useful in school and college to get notes down faster, but a major cause for murder when used to talk to people on the internet. The people that usually use shorthand on the internet like AIM, MSN or whatever are usually people that don't know how to fucking spell or write clear sentences. It's rare if these people DO know how to spell. Also, it's fucking annoying having to squint at the computer screen trying to make sense of something that looks scrunched together or looks like it came from another planet. The English language is the 2nd most used language in the word. Please, noobs, try not to fuck it up with your annoying use of shorthand. It's driving the world insane.

Noob: yo, waddap dawg. hw u do n?
Human: I'm doing fine.
Noob: wna hnq out sumtym? lyk @ da moves?
Human: Ugh, I'm sorry can you please type regular? I can't understand.

shorting a stock

taking an investment position that will benefit if the value of the stock goes down. Traditionally, "shorting a stock" means borrowing shares of stock from another broker, selling them, then buying them back (after the price has fallen) in order to return the stocks to the broker from whom they were borrowed.

You can short a stock using a derivative; this can include buying futures in the stock (i.e., a contract to sell someone else the stocks); or buying a put option (also called a put). A third way is to write a call (i.e., a call option, also known as a call) for the stock.

Shorting a stock usually requires a great deal of skill and courage; even the most talented short will only make money during rare crises.
