In Germany, especially in the area around Frankfurt am Main, Chaya used to described mostly brown woman of colour. It was often used by men to insult young woman of middle eastern background who wouldn't fit into the expectation of a good Muslim girl because of the way they act and look. Chaya were often woman with long black or brown hair, big earrings, heavy make up who came from a working class background.
Today chaya is often used as a self describing and empowering term by woman of colour in Germany. The black German musician Nura published a song named chaya. Because of its mysoginist, clasist and racist background the term shouldn't be claimed by anyone especially not by white woman from upper class.
