Blacketology

The phenomenon that every year since the onset of play-in games for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, a historically black or mostly black university has been selected to play in at least 1 of the play-in games as a 16 seed. The intrigue of this phenomenon increases when considering that most of these teams lose their game.

2007- Florida A and M (94% Black), lost to Niagra 69-77
2008- Coppin State (85% Black), lost to Mount Saint Mary's 60-69
2009- Alabama State (92% Black), lost to Morehead State 41-58
2010- Arkansas Pine Bluff (93% Black), beat Winthrop 61-44
Start of the First Four Era
2011- Alabama State (92% Black), lost to UTSA 61-70
2012- Mississippi Valley State (91% Black), lost to Western Kentucky 58-59
2013- North Carolina A and T (81% Black), beat Liberty 73-72
2014- Texas Southern (82% Black), lost to Cal Poly 69-81
2015- Hampton (94% Black), result to be determined

to put bracketology into action (see bracketology); to strategically develop a bracket. (The term "bracket" as used in this definition refers to a bracket for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. This tournament, "March Maddness", happens each year starting in mid-March and determines which team wins the NCAA Div. 1 Men's Basketball title.)
