Pronounced just as it sounds, the slang word “Shriv” is derived from the word “shriveled”, which isn’t an American word, rather, perhaps from a Scandinavian source (compare
Swedish skryvla "to wrinkle, to shrivel, to shrink”)
“Shriv” is a word which describes
one’s state of mind/state of being. It means to be
cold. As in, unprepared. Not ready. Shriv is the opposite of being ready. Instead of saying “I’
m going in HOT” the word “SHRIV” replaces the word “HOT”.
