RENT 

A play about a bunch of self-obsessed jackasses who whine about not having any money for food, heat, or rent while simultaneously whining about how they're too good to get jobs to support themselves. The supposed 'villain' of the play is the one guy who goes out, gets a job and--get this--has the nerve to SELL the building that they live in just because they haven't paid their rent in a year and they've turned the building into a drug distribution center/whorehouse/flophouse for the homeless, even though he was only letting them stay there at drastically reduced rent out of the goodness of his heart and for the sake of their friendship.

This play is very popular with young, pretentious assholes.

The best musical ever written. It came out in early 1996, and went to Broadway within a month. Its creator is Jonathan Larson, who died of an aneurysm the night before the first showing. Rent is the seventh longest running Broadway show ever, and closed in the September of 2008. A movie was made in 2005 with all of the OBC except for Daphne Rubin Vega and Fredi Walker.

Rent-hater: Rent is about gay people with AIDS who sing.
Renthead: No it isn't. It is about life, friends, and accepting people for who they are.

RENT 

a broadway play. Based on Puccini's La Boheme. Writen by Jonathan Larson who was HIV-positive but sadly died of an aortic aneurysm. Like La Boheme there is 8 people who grow into a family. Some people say it's life changing, a must see. Me? I agree.

Putting together money in order to rent several hotel rooms, a condo, or a home (usually near the beach) in order to have a party. The money is used to rent the room and to buy the liquor, food, and other party favors -- such as marijuana -- needed for the rent. Popular among high school seniors and early 20-somethings. (Especially in Miami)

Musical: Beautiful lyrics, beautiful characters, brilliant plot, amazing songs. The entire point of my existence. Will stay with their fans forever.
Movie: Completely ruined the Broadway show. Beautiful lyrics, ruined characters, ruined plot, ruined song. The entire bane of my existence. Will stay with their fans for all of 8 months.
