-First documented use in Meridian, Idaho in the early 90's. Evolved from the sound people make to immitate mental retardation.

verb: nerd flirting. When an individual of above to highly above average intelligence attempts to flirt with a potential sexual mate. This is commonly observed with bad jokes, awkward laughs, and a tendency towards conversations around Pokémon and Harry Potter. Nerting is generally most successful with another individual of above to highly above average intelligence as the cryptic social queues of the nerting protocol are more easily understood.
