To be lovesick is to deviate from physical and emotional 'normality'. In other words, you walk around like the walking dead, feeling empty, chest crushing, longing for that special someone. That special someone doesn't have to be a love interest. It could be a relative you've loved and lost, it could be a friend you've loved and have separated from.
