The Garfield effect

When you begin to look for Garfield, you begin to see him everywhere. For example: You see a Garfield plushie in a store or on a T-shirt someone is wearing. Garfield has bacome so mainstream over the last 40 years, that we have subconsiously erased his image from our life.
Person1: "Dude here he is again, Garfield!"
Person2: "You're just crazy, he isn't everywhere."
Person1: "I'm telling you, it's The Garfield effect."

Foxbat Effect

The Foxbat Effect is when an autocratic country, wanting to show how threatening and virile they are, overhype the effectiveness of their weapons, prompting wealthier and more powerful liberal democracies to develop weapons designed to actually counter the hyped-up weapons, only to then find out that the perceived threat was a turd.

So named for the MiG-25 “Foxbat”, which prompted the development of the F-15.
The T-90M’s missile countermeasures not working after NATO spent millions on weapons than can counter them is a prime example of the Foxbat Effect.

Farva Effect

When someone of lowest status attempt to gain the respect of others by ridiculing another person which they perceive as unpopular; typically the bullying is taken too far or in some other way results negatively for the instigator.
The Farva effects can be best described in the following scenario:

Joseph is small dweeby kid at school who is picked on continuously. Brian, however, is a "social retard" who wants desperately to fit in. One day, in an attempt to gain the popularity of those who Brian sees as admirable or popular, Brian grabs Joseph, punches him in the face, gives him a wedgie and nearly drowns him while attempting to give him a swirly before one of the football players comes to his rescue. Normally the football team likes to tease Joseph, but in this case Brian was seen as just a bully, and trying to make himself fit in - the result is that Brian is further ostracized as Brian looks cruel or desperate.
