"thats gay" is a bit outdated, but you can still hear people use it to define something thats not cool, or bad. it is derogatory, and disrepectful to queer persons and the lgbtq community in general, as you are insinuating that something uncool, bad, or unpleasant is gay.

debbie: jimmy just broke up with me.
tommy: thats gay , he shouldnt have done that.
debbie: and thats disrespectful. you could find another way to describe the end of my heterosexual split
tommy: what?
debbie: decribing my breakup as gay, is rude and you should find another way to describe it.
tommy: wow! i didnt know that, i appologize! now my dick has grown 3 inches!

Well "Thats great" is used in many terms. The term i believe used by caucasians while not giving a dam about what the other person is saying, because they just wana sound like they give a dam they would answer " wow, thats great" while really not paying attention to what you have said.
