policy debate

Absolute waste of life. Manfiestation of all that is the ivory-tower intellectual. It may be named policy debate, but the argumentation contributes nothing to any policy in the real world.

LD debate

A form of debate inferior to policy, as proved by its lack of a definition on urban dictionary. Although it varies around the country, it generally emphasizes presentation more than policy does. However, at many tournaments, the speed is catching up to policy.

There are two types of LDers: policy LDers and traditional LDers. Policy LDers spew and read cards off computers, and lose when they have lay judges. Traditional LDers speak slowly, act politely, make eye-contact, and win only when they have lay judges.

It is named after the debates between Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. The topic changes every two months and usually relates to whether an action or policy is just. An LDer talks about a value and a kriterion, and cites philosophers in their scattered cards.
Did you see that team? They weren't spewing and they kept looking up at the judge. They must have been LDers. We won, of course.

This was more of a policy-style LD debate tournament. None of the old school kids broke.

This was more of a traditional LD tournament. None of the spewers broke. Stupid lay judges who can't comprehend kritiks.

Policy Debate

A type of debate that you love to hate. You will complain about it because it is a longer, more prepped, and harder. The only good that comes from this debate is that little high you get when you win a round, just to figure out the judge didn't let you win because the other team were wearing matching cloths.
oh you do policy debate, you most LOVE your life.

Internet Debate

n. When two or more morons on the internet get on their high horse about everything from politics to religion to society to fandom, and basically just try to out-sophisticate each other by overusing fancy words such as "asinine" in lengthy thought-out retorts that nobody cares to read.

Inconceivably, this is actually how they entertain themselves.

Nobody is safe to expose their opinions without at least one of these arrogant douchebags trying to pry an explanation from you, so be careful who you trust.
Debater: You sir are ignorant. Your previous statement on blah blah blah clearly contradicts blah blah--

Involuntary Opponent: aw hell no, I ain't got time for some internet debate!

republican debate

An argument where there isn't any real constructive debate happening,

but rather a battle of egos, pride, and vanity.

An argument where attacking your opponent's character, past, family,

or friends as well as name calling or claims of not caring

take precedence over a practical view of the real issues at hand.

A euphemism for ranting about, disliking, or even hating something

whilst simultaneously lacking any constructive criticism.
"Mom and Dad were having a Republican Debate about proper directions on the

road trip so I knew I wasn't going to be able to sleep on the way."

"We tried talking to address our relationship problems but it just ended up
escalating into a Republican Debate every time"
