sandbagging

Sandbagging (or being a Sandbagger) is the act of participating in an event or competition you are clearly the best at a particular activity, and thereby win easily due to your skill level.

Likely origin is from BMX racing in the early 90s where the term was used often.
"Tom entered the race as a novice. That's ridiculous."
"I swear he's been racing for 10+ years."
"Yeah. He's totally sandbagging."

In ham radio and CB radio, sandbagging is listening to a frequency without participating.
"Careful what you say on Channel 19, the RCMP is always sandbagging there."

"Okay, nice talking to you, I'll probably be sandbagging for the next hour in case you want me."
