is a trick played on someone that is meant to be funny for people watching, though normally embarrassing for the person being tricked.

What would you do if someone called you saying they were Barack Obama? Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen got a call just like that the other day and like many people would, she assumed it was a radio station practical joke.

cold joke

In China, a joke that funny by virtue of being not actually funny at all. The name comes from the fact that when one hears a cold joke, he shivers in terror instead of laughing because the joke is so bad. From Mandarin Chinese, "leng xiao hua."

An example of a cold joke: "There was a hide and seek club at my high school. The president still hasn't been found."

A dark joke is an offensive joke with an unexpected punchline, usually making fun of yourself or current problems in society.

Someone: I hate these double standards. If you burn a body at a crematorium, you’re "doing a good job", if you do it at home, you’re “destroying evidence”.

Someone 2: How could you be so insensitive! Don't make dark jokes!

Possibly the coolest fictional character of all time. Batman's archenemy, with a thing for green and purple. Has been played by Jack Nicholson and many others. Also known as the Clown Prince of Crime and the Ace of Knaves.

"Joker and Batman faced off in Gotham City and Batman got sprayed with Smilex."

Another way to say "I'm a dick," used by said dick to paint a person's reaction to a distasteful joke as unreasonable/

I have no respect for peoples' identity, culture, or feelings, but I don't want to face the consequences of that lack of respect, so I'll simply say, "It's just a joke."
