Dominator Culture

A model of culture and human relations based on hierarchy, ranking, power, and control. Masculinity is equated with control, conquest, and violence: men dominating women and children.

Opposite to Partnership Culture.

In a domination system...

Humans are flawed and dangerous.

Difference is equated with superiority or inferiority.

Power is used to control and destroy through hierarchies of domination.

Competition means "dog eat dog"; "every man for himself".

People cooperate to dominate others.

Huge gaps between haves and have-nots

Nature is a resource to be dominated, depleted and polluted.

Morality of insensitivity, control, and coercion.

Dominator culture teaches all of us that the core of our identity is defined by the will to dominate and control others. We are taught that this will to dominate is more biologically hardwired in males than in females. In actuality, dominator culture teaches us that we are all natural-born killers but that males are more able to realize the predator role. In the dominator model the pursuit of external power, the ability to manipulate and control others, is what matters most. When culture is based on a dominator model, not only will it be violent but it will frame all relationships as power struggles.

Another name for someone who often has a commanding influence or tries to exercise control over others and is often selfish and very pretentious. Comes from the term Dominator.

Non-denominational holiday wishes

Holiday greeting which is acceptable for dissemination to anyone, is politically correct and entirely non-offensive; yet contains no substance and is really annoying.

Please accept my non-denominational holiday wishes with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2010, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wish.

A nickname for the fundraising technique whereas a microscopic pre-checked box in an email solicitation allows the sly and savvy fraudster to legally suck multiple donations out of your bank account within a thirty-day period - unless you uncheck the virtually imperceptible box before submitting your donation.

My dying mother had no idea how generous she was actually being when she made her inadvertent autotrump donations to the trumpian greed machine during her final comatose days!

Parent of the year nomination

An ironic term to describe the complete meltdown of a child in a public space when accompanied by a parent.

Can also describe the looks others give you when either your child freaks out or you do something they disapprove of.

After five minutes of Rachel's tantrum on the floor of the toy section of the department store, Nathan finally put her over her shoulder and bundled her out to the car, his daughter giving him the parent of the year nomination the whole way.
